In the final concert, baritone Thomas Oliemans and Amsterdam Sinfonietta will travel through France in Formidable!, alternating chansons with classical works by French grandmasters.
As a boy, baritone Thomas Oliemans already sang with the stars of French chanson, thanks to his father's LP collection. Now a celebrated opera singer, performing at major opera houses around the world, he and Amsterdam Sinfonietta return to his early passion: French chanson.
Popular and lesser-known works ranging from Jacques Brel to Barbara and from Charles Trenet to Stromae are interspersed with classical works for strings by Ravel, Rameau, Debussy and Fauré. They illustrate the unmistakable and enduring French sound idiom in both "high" and "low" art forms over the centuries.
