Museum Belvédère, named after the Belvédère watchtower just down the road, originates from the desire of three men: Thom Mercuur, Sjoerd de Vries and Boele Bregman. On Nov. 24, 2004, the museum was opened by Queen Beatrix. The building was designed by Eerde Schippers and won the 2006 BNA Building of the Year competition. The surrounding museum park was designed by landscape architect Michael R. van Gessel.
