Details: Oranjewoud estate has a royal past: on the site of today's Oranjewoud estate stood in the 17th century the summer residence of Princess Albertine Agnes, daughter of Prince Frederick Henry of Orange and granddaughter of William of Orange. It remained in the family's possession for a long time. The last time an Orange descendant showed up there was in 1791. Not long after, the summer residence was demolished. In 1823 jonkheer De Blocq van Scheltinga bought the land and had the present country house built on the old foundations. The garden was also redesigned. The estate remained in the family until it was sold in 1953 to the Institute for Agricultural Cooperatives, an association of various agricultural cooperatives. In the 1970s, the property came into the possession of the Friesland Bank, which completely renovated the mansion and adapted it to the requirements of modern times. Then, in 2012, the Friesland Bank was acquired by Rabobank. As a major shareholder, the Friesland Bank Foundation gained ownership of the Oranjewoud Estate and the bank's art collection, among other things, as a result of this acquisition. The foundation changed its name to Stichting FB Oranjewoud in 2013 and owns the Oranjewoud Estate to this day.
