The Oranjewoud Festival collaborates on a multi-year basis with the Schiermonnikoog Festival, which celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2026. Each year, the festival selects an exceptional talent who has distinguished themselves with excellence during the spring edition on Schiermonnikoog. In 2026, this is the Spanish pianist Juan Lara Mijancos.
Lara Mijancos is receiving the award for the expressiveness of his playing and his personality. “He is a true artist who knows how to captivate the audience with his musical storytelling,” said Avedis Kouyoumdjian, the master teacher at the Schiermonnikoog Festival who nominated him.
This concert is exclusive to Friends of the Oranjewoud Festival.
Juan Lara Mijancos began studying piano at the age of seven at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música Jacinto Guerrero in Toledo, where he laid the foundations for his musical development at an early stage. His talent did not go unnoticed: he won first prize at the Mozart National Piano Competition – Ciudad de Talavera and also received an award at the Concurso Nacional de Piano Ciudad de Toledo.
To broaden his artistic horizons, he took part in the Erasmus+ programme, attending masterclasses in Florence. In addition to his regular studies, he received lessons from several distinguished pianists and pedagogues, including Alexander Kandelaki, David Kuyken, and Claudio Martínez-Mehner.
In 2023, he completed his advanced studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Bonifacio Gil. He is currently continuing his education in the master’s programme at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studies with David Kuyken.
