During Pieces of Today, you’ll hear previews and encores from artists featured in the main programme, emerging talent, and more. Today, you can enjoy performances by several winners of the Prinses Christina Concours, including Elka and Wende Hoogendijk, as well as fifteen-year-old pianist Fernando Lourens, the newly announced winner of the Oranjewoud Festival Prijs at the national final held on 9 May.
The jury about Fernando: “Both in his stage presence and in his refined interpretation of Scherzo No. 1 by Frédéric Chopin, Fernando demonstrates remarkable maturity and an irresistible sense of determination. He captures the demonic, sharp-edged, and capricious character of the composition, while also revealing a colourful and layered touch in the gentle middle section, where Chopin quotes a Polish Christmas carol. One thing is clear: Fernando simply has to play the piano!”
