In this concert, Lucie Horsch and Thomas Oliemans let go of their usual roles and step together into a new musical world. Although Lucie is best known for her virtuosic recorder playing, she is also active as a pianist and mezzo-soprano. Oliemans, a baritone as well as a pianist, moves just as easily between opera, song, and chanson, often accompanying himself at the piano.
The recital opens and closes with beloved four-hand piano works by Fauré and Schubert. In between, songs by Ravel and Brahms are performed, in which Horsch and Oliemans alternate as singer and pianist. As Horsch previously put it: “switching between singing and playing the piano is not a trick, but a means to reach the very core of the music together as directly as possible.”
