“In the beginning was the word. And the ending was lost.” In this concert of sentences, Manu van Kersbergen takes language as his point of departure. Language as a collective archive. Language as a key. And also: language as a tool to shape reality to your will.
In “The Rediscovery of Heaven”, Manu not only reinvents himself as an artist, but also his tools. Words hold value in the making of our world. They connect us, but often also drive us apart. This rediscovery is an intensive crossover between spoken word and composition. Together with his music collective .multibeat, Manu has developed an experimental exploration in search of a new language.
Theo d’Or
Manu van Kersbergen was nominated in 2025 for the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize and the Theo d’Or for the most groundbreaking stage performance for “The Rediscovery of Heaven.”
From the jury report:
“When Van Kersbergen ultimately gives the audience a glimpse into a painful, personal story of a beloved family member who does not speak at all, he moves the audience to tears and gives new meaning to the concept of purity.”
