A Flat with a Thousand Windows
Step into A Flat with a Thousand Windows, a six-part theatrical mini-series in which the walls vibrate with music, imagination, and human stories. The inventive composer and creative mind Primo Ish-Hurwitz (2001) breathes new life into the six iconic Opus 20 string quartets by Joseph Haydn—by linking them to brand-new compositions by six leading contemporary Dutch composers: Jan-Peter de Graaff, Richard Ayres, Frieda Gustavs, Boris Bezemer, Hanna Kulenty, and Ish-Hurwitz himself.
Writer Joke van Leeuwen has woven it all together into a framed narrative featuring six apartment residents: from the daughter of a war photographer reflecting on her father’s work to a heavily pregnant woman speaking to her baby about the outside world. Enjoy six short performances, performed by the Vienna-based Chaos String Quartet and actress Ariane Schluter, directed by Jos van Kan.
