On the shortest day in 2020, composer Miranda Driessen began a new work-in-progress entitled Vers la Lumière. The plan was to make a short field recording every day at dawn for an entire year, until December 21, 2021, in Lumière Park, right across from the Floriade under construction. Every week she edited this into a piece of musique concrète of about 7 minutes.
The installation Vers la lumière, which she then created with filmmaker Toon de Zoeten, is based on a mathematical arrangement of time by Dom van der Laan (as well as Sanctuary of Sound, her other work at the festival). It consists of projections on canvases hung in space. Audiences can sit on cushions on the floor and dream away or meditate for a while.
Vers la Lumière is a reflection on the world around us that had come to a standstill because of the pandemic as if in a sort of sleep-death, but awoke again and again.
