The Kofferbak Collective, consisting of soprano Klaartje van Veldhoven, accordionist Renée Bekkers, and baritone Mattijs van de Woerd, takes you to an old country estate deep in the forest, where a group of people has retreated for a peculiar ritual. The group mainly consists of hunters, elegant representatives of old money who have lost their fortune. The only thing they still possess is the hunt, a final tradition not yet taken from them by the modern elite.

Hunting through the forests with their dogs, they feel one with nature, like the landowners of old. Society, however, paints this tradition as inhumane and cruel, forcing them to say goodbye to their old way of life.
An extensive therapy session follows. With breathing exercises and guided steps through the stages of grief, their therapist pulls out all the stops to prepare the hunters for the new world. Meanwhile, the traumatized stag is rehabilitated, and Diana, the goddess of the hunt, makes one final desperate attempt to defend her right to exist.
Programme
The Vegetarian Hunting Cantata is loosely inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantata Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd, BWV 208 (Hunting Cantata), supplemented with repertoire from the Baroque period and beyond.
