The outstanding Van Baerle Trio, consisting of pianist Hannes Minnaar, violinist Maria Milstein and cellist Gideon den Herder, was last a guest at Oranjewoud Festival in 2016. The Trio garnered many awards and honors, including an Edison Classical for their debut CD and first prizes at the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon in 2011 and the prestigious ARD Competition in Munich in 2013. Shortly thereafter, the ensemble was nominated by the Concertgebouw for the 2013/14 ECHO Rising Stars, a tour that took the trio to Europe's most important venues.
In Oranjewoud, the ensemble presents a sophisticated program featuring Saint-Saëns' brilliant second piano trio and the piano trio written especially for the Van Baerle by Gabriel Prokofiev, the grandson of. Prokofiev (1975): 'Composing for the very "classical" format of Piano, Violin & Cello has actually been a revelation! - So interesting to reach back into the tradition, and at the same time explore new sounds, textures & rhythms.'
