Proximity

With Proximity, composer and artist duo Strijbos & Van Rijswijk present a unique project in which music, space and technology come together. Here they compose not only in terms of time, but also for a spatial sculpture specially designed for the deer park of Oranjestein Estate. In it they will work with several artists who will perform live on their instrument and electronics. During the preparations, new musical material will be created especially for Proximity with loops, drones, field recordings and electronic synths.

By combining sound, space and interaction, Proximity creates a dialogue between people, the artist's live performed music and the venue. The listening experience is tailored to how people perceive their surroundings, with 3D sound and visual elements. To make this possible, Strijbos & Van Rijswijk are developing new software and an audio interface in their studio lab called "the cockpit. This tool enables the live creation and performance of such a musical work.
