The three Dutch star soloists—violinist Rosanne Philippens, violist Hannah Strijbos, and cellist Lidy Blijdorp—present a varied programme for string trio, featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, Sibelius, Kodály, and Françaix. In the arrangement of the Goldberg Variations made by violinist Sitkovetsky in the 1980s, the interplay of the individual voices in Bach’s ultimate keyboard work is brought out beautifully.
Also enjoy Jean Sibelius’ String Trio in G, an early, intense, and lyrical work in which youthful drama and Nordic melancholy merge. Zoltán Kodály’s Intermezzo for string trio is a lively and poetic miniature, naturally blending Hungarian folk influences, rhythmic precision, and warm lyricism.
Finally, Jean Françaix’s 1933 String Trio is a sparkling and elegant work, full of enthusiasm, subtle irony, and refined French transparency, brimming with virtuosity and playful charm.
