An Elegy by composer and director Mees Vervuurt is a musical performance in and with the landscape. Ten people attempt to merge with nature; voices drift along with the wind. A singer tries to catch the air with her breath. Percussive strikes resonate through the ground. Someone buries themselves and waits. A choir sings in seven different languages, moving through the landscape like a group of migratory birds.

It is not a performance to watch, but a moment to disappear into.

An Elegy is an intimate exercise in disappearance and connection. In a time when humans and nature seem further apart than ever, the singers of NKK NXT (Isabel Houtmortels, Mariana Costa, Mar Pino-Charlez, Femke Hultman, Maria Antoniou, Lou-Anne Massard, Marină Cabau, Youngin Lee), together with dancer Annabel Koele and percussionist Mees Siderius, attempt to come together.

An exercise in merging with the surroundings, and at the same time the question: are we still capable of doing so? Haven’t we already distanced ourselves too much from everything around us?

An Elegy is an invitation to listen more deeply. To the earth. To everything that lives.

The landscape becomes a living co-performer that speaks and sings. Sand, breath, grass, movement, birds, a passing stranger, and percussion together form a musical tableau in which watching धीरे gradually gives way to participation.
