Pakhûs SOLO

Last year, Oranjewoud Festival entered into a new collaboration with Pakhûs SOLO in Stiens, a village just north of Leeuwarden. This initiative of Stichting Stinze-Stiens has the motto "new music for curious audiences" and is programmed by harpist Beate Loonstra. In a small and intimate warehouse that has been converted into a concert hall, concerts take place on Friday evenings that focus on new music, performed by one person. Solo, which also happens to be the name of the margarine brand that used to be distributed in the warehouse.

For the second SOLO concert at Oranjewoud Festival , Beate brings in baritone saxophonist Giuseppe Doronzo's electro-acoustic solo project TWINS. In a world where identity is constantly evolving, TWINS takes listeners on a unique journey that unlocks the transformative power of the baritone saxophone. Each composition in TWINS is a fusion between the baritone saxophone and a particular playing technique or complementary (instrumental) object.

Inspired by Pirandello's exploration of social masks and Pauline Oliveros' "Deep Listening" philosophy, the saxophone transcends its traditional form and transforms into a percussion instrument, synthesizer, flute or trombone. Through each metamorphosis, the performer becomes a multifaceted storyteller, embodying a living sound archive that reveals new dimensions of sonic identity: the baritone saxophone as you have not often listened to it before.
