Toonzetters winner New Geneco Fair Practice Award 2022

Toonzetters is a project by composer Primo Ish-Hurwitz (21), produced by Oranjewoud Festival. In short compositions, twenty composers under thirty sketch a vivid portrait of the times in music today. The result is a kaleidoscopic concert performance in which diverse styles and characters pass in review at high speed, from neo-romantic to minimal or jazzy electronics. For over an hour, a colorful portrait of the current generation of tone setters unfolds. The 20 works are performed by award-winning musicians: percussionists Agostinho Sequiera and Arjan Jongsma and pianists Ramon van Engelenhoven and Shane van Neerden. Filmmaker Bowie Verschuuren is responsible for the film footage during the performance and director Jos van Kan provided directorial advice.

The composers who are part of Toonzetters are: Jan-Peter de Graaff, Mathilde Wantenaar, Karmit Fadael, Julian Schneemann, Celia Swart, Alexandre Kordzaia, Bram Kortekaas, Primo Ish-Hurwitz, Rick van Veldhuizen, Boris Bezemer, Frieda Gustavs, Nils Davidse. Thomas van Dun, Nuno Lobo, Ramin Amin Tafreshi, Arjan Linker, Tijmen van Tol, Martín Mayo, Melle Heij and Dimitri Geelhoed.

Primo Ish-Hurwitz is first-prize winner of the international Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition 2022. He is now a fourth-year composition student at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Willem Jeths and Meriç Artaç.
