History

The plot on which this monumental farm stands has been cultivated since the 17th century. In 1878 the old farmstead was replaced by the present one. Hielke Jeltes Hornstra is tenant. The farm inherited to Johannes Bieruma Oosting, a second cousin of Pieter Heringa Cats. After his death, the farm was allotted to Gerrit Ferdinand Bieruma Oosting, the third child of Johannes. In 1903, the farm was officially named "Maria Albertina" for the first time. The description reads, "farmhouse with barn and outbuildings, garden, yard and meadows with quarter in Oranjewoud." Tenant Hielke Jeltes Hornstra remained on the farm until about 1911. His daughter Dieuwke married a cousin, Nanne Hornstra. They leased the farm until 1928. In 1928, Arjen Homme de Jong became the new tenant. De Jong remained as farmer until 1960. His son-in-law Durk de Vries joined his father-in-law in 1953, whom he succeeded in 1960.

From 1973 he ran the farm together with his son Aebele, who later leased the farm from Mrs. Taets van Amerongen. Later jonkvrouwe A.V. de Beaufort-van Sminia became the owner. Until October 1, 1995, Aebele remained on the farm with his family.

Influenced by the spatial developments in neighboring Skoatterwâld, the farm was sold in 1995. Now the Van der Zee family occupies the monumental farm.
