During corona, an allotment formed a safe haven of sorts for former Composer of the Fatherland Mayke Nas. After purchasing a macro lens, the world of insects opened up before her eyes. At the same time, she became painfully aware of the vulnerability of insect populations, given the ongoing decline in biodiversity.
Commissioned by the festival in 2022, Mayke Nas created an installation and composition in one that took insects as its starting point. It became a kind of flower bed consisting of 27 speakers on rotating stalks. Both the speakers themselves and the motors that drive the stalks produce sound. These sounds form the building blocks for the composition.
Meanwhile, the composition is ready and can be heard during the festival in the museum during the day. It forms a playful viewing and listening game in which the speakers seem to dance and almost take on something human.
